About the Artist 

For over a decade, Victoria Champion has brought glamour and joy to San Antonio's art scene. During her time as a Duchess in The Order of the Alamo's Fiesta Court, she fell in love with San Antonio's rich culture. This love, as well as her own experiences as a Duchess, have brought a real sense of authenticity to her Fiesta inspired art. Ever since the completion of her first Duchess Portrait in 2016, her main focus has been on creating treasured pieces that can be passed down for generations. 

When she isn't creating these one-of-a-kind pieces, she loves to explore other artistic avenues with her Original Artwork. Her latest series, "Head in the Clouds," takes the viewer on a whimsical journey where each daydream blurs the idea of "traditional" while still paying homage to the timeless art of Masonry.

Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, I grew up with a love for both animals and art. During my youth, I won 3 Silver Keys for a variety of artistic submissions and 1st place in Print Making at the Alabama State Fair. In 2007, I took an AP Art class and explored drastic facial expressions using shadows and varying color schemes in the watercolor medium. I received a 5 out of 5 on my final portfolio before heading to Auburn University. 

While pursuing an Animal Sciences degree, I started exploring different artistic subjects and mediums.  I was immediately drawn to acrylic paint with it's the fast-drying properties and ease of use. I also fell in love with cows during my academic studies and began painting them. Soon after, I started to receive requests for custom pet portraits and discovered a new and exciting niche for my artistic repertoire. 

After graduation and being accepted into Veterinary School, I discovered that I had become allergic to most animals and would have to find an alternate career. Thankfully, I already had an established side business with Victoria Champion Art and was able to make a smooth transition into this next phase of my life. I am forever grateful for that one door closing, because it forced me to take a risk and follow my true calling, Art. 

As my art evolved, I began to add dimension to my paintings by incorporating glitter, metal leaf, and oil pastels into my acrylic paintings. My method of painting, too, has shifted from large, smooth brush strokes, rudimentary subjects, and simple compositions to small, precise strokes, detailed subjects, and intriguing compositions with more deliberate themes.  

Over the past 15 years, I have embraced the expansion of the "customizable" side of my business, and I have viewed it as an opportunity to leave my comfort zone. After moving to San Antonio and participating in the 2013 Fiesta Court, I began to offer Duchess Portraits, which led to Crown Portraits, and then, finally, hand-painted champagne bottles. This wide exploration of different subjects and mediums has given me clarity in my longterm artistic goals. I seek to capture the joyous harmony that lies within the balancing of traditional and modern. I also hope to reignite an appreciation for the concept of timeless beauty and highlight how quickly it can be overlooked in today's fast-paced, consumer-focused society. Lastly, with the addition of lighthearted, random accents, I want to bring a sense of joy and amusement to our chaotic everyday life.

I currently live in San Antonio, Texas with my husband, our 3 yr old son, and our two adorable fur babies - Bruce and Dory. Each year, I discover something new and fantastic about this beautiful city, and I look forward to continuing to be a part of San Antonio's vibrant local art scene.
