When considering a custom pet portrait, people choose to work with me because I take a unique approach by making it very personalized to not only the pet but also the owner.

Which means, I really try to capture the personality of the animal itself by, for example, using soft colors and a shy expression for a gentle animal, or bold colors and a silly expression for an energetic animal.

Then, I go the extra mile by also considering the personality of the owner and their favorite stories about their beloved pet to add an interesting twist to the traditional pet portrait.
"Louisa Vuitton" Pet Portrait. Acrylic painting with metallic accents on deep canvas. 24 in by 24 in on deep canvas. 2021.
Original photo of Lulu
"Ty" Pet Portrait. Acrylic painting with silver accents. 24 in by 24 in on deep canvas. 2019. For details on how this portrait came together, see the caption on the next photo.
Photo Reference for Ty. The owners sell and promote Casa Azul Tequila (these beautiful, hand crafted and hand painted tequila bottles) and they love to cook. (One of the first meals they ever cooked for me was from Julia Child’s cookbook- and of course it was incredible. It’s a meal I’ll never forget so I had to find a way to incorporate that memory into the painting.) Ty is also the ruler of the roost, he is their lovable fur baby, so I had to have him propped up as if “put up on a pedestal.” I loved knowing so much about this wonderful couple so that I could create such a personal and one of a kind pet portrait.
“Montana” pet portrait Acrylic painting on stretched canvas. 9 in by 12 in. 2019.
For my pet portraits, I love finding ways to incorporate not only the pet’s personality but also the client’s. The client loves: ice cream (I used her favorite flavors), Harry Potter, reading, teal, purple, and mermaids. Since Montana is the “feistier” cat, I incorporated the Harry Potter theme. And with her hissing in the photo, I thought it would be awesome if she could be hissing at a golden snitch passing by!
“Dakota” pet portrait. Acrylic painting on stretched canvas. 9 in by 12 in. 2019.
For my pet portraits, I love finding ways to incorporate not only the pet’s personality but also the client’s. The client loves: ice cream (I used her favorite flavors), Harry Potter, reading, teal, purple, and mermaids. Since Dakota is the sweeter cat, I incorporated the femininity of the mermaid theme (using her favorite colors). And with her foot being raised, I placed a bowl of ice cream underneath to look as if she’s dipping her toes into some delicious mint chip ice cream!
"Loki" Pet Portrait. Acrylic painting (client wanted a blue monotone theme) with silver leaf background. 12 in by 12 in on deep canvas. 2019.
Client wanted me to use this photo for his body (but to add more volume to his fur coat since this picture was taken a while ago, he has grown and filled out since then).
Client wanted me to use this photo for his face.
This is his favorite toy that he carries with him everywhere.

Photo reference for Samson's pet portrait. He was known for always laying down on their zebra rug in front of the fireplace, so we chose to paint him in the way they remembered him. And for the background color, since the walls in the room where the painting was going were gray, I thought a dusty medium to dark blue would compliment both the walls and the color scheme of Samson and his zebra rug.

"Star" Pet Portrait. Acrylic painting. 11 in by 14 in. 2018. *Owner requested that she have more of a salt and pepper coloring (lessen some of the white around the eyes and muzzle) so that she would have a more "youthful" look. : )

"Lovely Lola." Acrylic painting with pearlized paint background. 12 in by 12 in deep canvas. October 2017. This photo was taken without the flash to show the rich "Fruit Punch" color of the pearlized paint.
This photo was taken with the flash to show how the pearlized paint shimmers and turns into a paler pink when the light hits it.
Sample photos of Lola - I was sent an alternate photo of her favorite toy to be painted.

"The Heck Crew: Bode-ster, Howie, and Case Dog." The tan dog, Casey, is such a happy dog, and when he isn't wagging his tail he is known for curling up and sleeping under Dr. Heck's feet. Howard "Howie" is a scruffy little white dog with a feisty personality. He is known for ruling to roost and tearing up toilet paper whenever we gets frustrated. Then, Bodie, the brown and white Berner mix is the shy, sweet old man who LOVES squirrels. I had so much fun capturing all the quirks and lovable traits of these sweet dogs!! See my blog post "Creating the pet portrait "Heck Crew" to learn more about this painting and how it was created!

"Victoria,
You did a portrait of my fur baby Sadie, who thinks she’s a spoiled princess. She was wonderful to work with and had it finished faster than I ever expected. I absolutely love it!"
