I have two very distinct styles of painting. Type one: traditional, subdued/natural colors and stoic subject matter. Type two: modern with a whimsical vibe, bold in color, and intriguing subject matter. This divergence is not only representative of my artistic style but also of my personality. ![]() Back in 2013, I was on track to attend veterinary school before some increasingly severe allergies to animals caused me to change course. Art had always been a huge passion for me. I had even considered going to art school. However, with a family full of medical professionals, a more traditional career choice was encouraged. My dad, who I am so proud to have inherited so much of my personality and creativity from, wanted me to do as he did – go to college, work hard in a stable career and keep hobbies, such as art, as a fun past time. ![]() When the door to vet school slammed shut, I was devastated. However, it gave me the chance to take a risk and pursue a career as an artist without any guilt or doubt. Thankfully, my husband continues to be supportive of my journey, every step of the way, and in 2016, that support allowed me to begin working full time as an artist in my in-home studio. ![]() The introverted, intellectual side of my personality helps the creative, free-spirited side stay focused. And this balance shows in my artistic style as I love to blend traditional with whimsical. I’ve been told several times that I need to hone in on one subject for my art, and stick to it. However, while the subjects in each of my series may change, my desire to bring joy, humor and color to peoples lives always remains the same. I do not ever want to put limits on my artistic journey. To me, variety in an artist’s work allows the audience to see deeper into that person’s creative mind and personal interests (and therefore creates more interest in the artist themselves). Having painted professionally for close to 15 years now, I hope to continue to build bold and cohesive collections that reflect my artistic goals - a renewed appreciation for traditional art, as well as delight in its reimagining in a contemporary context. I hoped you enjoyed learning a little bit more about my artistic style. Check my Instagram @vchampionart for upcoming “Meet and Greet the Artist” events to discuss my art with me in person!
